Counseling

My belief is that the process of counseling is one which assists you in becoming who you were meant to be. One of the most important aspects of therapy is the relationship that is formed between the client and the therapist. Connection is one of human’s strongest needs. A strong therapeutic alliance can assist you in walking through the often-uncomfortable process of change; without feeling alone.

I create a place of non-judgement, trust, and collaboration. It is crucial for me to meet you where you are and help guide you towards self-discovery, self-acceptance, and finally self-actualization.

My theoretical orientation and techniques used are tailored to the unique needs of each person; these include person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and existential therapy. I am trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and incorporate art and mindfulness into the therapy process. I work primarily with adults in a one-on-one setting.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness plays an important role in the way I approach counseling. Broadly researched as an effective modality in treating stress, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, addiction, and a range of other psychological problems; mindfulness allows people to live more intentional lives.

Cultivating mindful awareness can help you work with life circumstances instead of living in constant reactivity to what is happening within and around you. Shifting how you relate to your moment to moment experience can be the difference between life passing you by (as you get stuck in the depression of the past or the anxiety of the future) and fully inhabiting the now.

The present is the only time that any of us have to be alive
– to know anything, to perceive, to learn, to act, to change, to heal.
